Those wacky conservatives

When you use the word "conservative" to describe most things, it generally is taken to mean cautious. A conservative investment, for example, is an investment that has a low risk of losing money. A conservative estimate is an estimate that is purposefully moderate so as to reduce the risk of exaggeration. Now, in politics, "conservative" means something else. Pat Robertson, who believes that God uses natural disasters in order to punish human beings is, somehow, considered a conservative.

Record a SIP call

I have a bunch of voicemail messages from my daughter on my cell phone that I would like to store permanently. I now have a VOIP provider (ViaTalk) that gives me the SIP credentials and let's me use their adapter and a softphone. One of the tech support people was even helpful enough to recommend Twinkle.

Hail to the end of broadcast television

Last weekend we returned our cable box, which is how you cancel your cable subscription. You can't just call them up and tell them to turn it off, the technology is so antiquated that you have to actually take a piece of hardware to a store and give to a human being before Comcast will stop billing you. Amazing.
